Marching into Spring
What’s Next for Your Lawn
There are two great things about March:
- We gain daylight when we get to set the clocks forward, and
- We get to celebrate the first day of spring!
This winter has been a rainy and unstable one with temperatures fluctuating greatly week to week and with no end in sight to the heavy rainfall we started experiencing last year. Don’t worry though because PPLM is hard at work navigating the weather conditions to make sure that we start 2019 services on the right foot while we are Marching Into Spring. This month, our fertilizer crew is hard at work completing most of our Round One fertilizer treatments that we started last month. Meanwhile, our maintenance team is out every day of the week again completing mulch and pruning services for the spring. With temperatures still getting below freezing more than once a week, there is no rush yet to begin mowing services, but we ask that our mow clients keep us up to date on when they start seeing sustained growth in their lawn.

To Spring Seed or Not to Spring Seed
Spring seeding is a service that most years is rarely recommended due to its high risk of poor results, but after a summer and fall like we had in 2018, many people are interested in spring seeding to try to get their lawn reestablished. Planting fescue in spring is not as ideal as planting it in the fall, but it does have some merits for a fescue lawn that has struggled since its fall seeding. If a lawn is still experiencing significant thin or bare areas as a result of harsh weather, damage, or sub par fall seeding results, spring seeding may be a viable option if the proper precautions are taken.
The main concerns with spring seeding are related to summer heat and the risk of weeds. Every lawn is different, so the risk of these issues is higher or lower based on the amount of shade, issue, and existing turf your property has. If you are interested in spring seeding, please feel free to reply to this newsletter or call our office to discuss the service with our team. Spring seeding is best performed in mid-March, so don’t miss out on it if you are interested.

Supplementary Packages
Marching Into Spring is the best time to get set up for one of PPLM’s supplementary packages that are offered to provide you with more detailed coverage for your lawn and property based on your personal needs, priorities, and budget.
The Plus Package – covers a season’s worth of fungus, grub, and nutsedge control. These lawn specific problems are a high risk this year due to the prolonged amount of heavy moisture our area has experienced. These problems can be catastrophic to a lawn and are more expensive to correct than to prevent, so we greatly encourage our clients to explore this option while discounted rates are still available!
The Pest Package – offers all natural mosquito, flea, and tick control so that you and your family can actually enjoy the yard you’ve invested in making beautiful. Our product is not only effective in greatly reducing the presence of unwanted outdoor pests, but it is also completely safe for you, your pets, and your pollinators. Treatments start in April, so be sure to get a quote soon!
To explore these options, be sure to reply to this newsletter or contact our office.

PPLM’s team has a true passion for lawn care that shows in the customized service we provide. As in any industry, continuing education is a vital component to a professional’s ability to maintain their knowledge of modern methods and technology that impact their field. Turf management is no exception, especially with the great strides many manufacturers and developers are making in sustainable and conscientious products across the board. Our team is proud to attend several conferences and industry events during the year to maintain a strong relationship with the men and women behind the products and equipment that we use as well as to stay up to date on what has newly entered the market. A couple of weeks ago, Jimmy, Lisa, Brandyn, and Caety attended the Lawncology event, a yearly summit that hosts applicators from around the country to share ideas about groundbreaking (literally) innovations such as liquid aeration products, targeted weed control, and more. The lawn care industry is sensitive to economic and environmental changes, but it plays a great part in conservation and urbanization. Turf management companies build the greatest success when they stay up to date on what is being done to improve this long established system. No one should ever stop learning, which is why PPLM looks forward to attending many more seminars like Lawncology in the future and bringing what we learn back home to our clients.

We like to tell everyone to change the oil, spark plug, and to get a new or sharpen your mower blades before every season to make sure everything is up and running correctly. Sharpen your mower blades at least 3 times a year for a residential yard.
Thanks again for your comment.

Hi, Thanks for your informative article. I want to know, how can I take care of my lawn mower in this spring? Thanks in advance for giving me the suggestion.
We always like to start with a tune up at the beginning of the year. Check the spark plug, change the oil, change the air filter and make sure you have a very sharp blade at the start of the season!
