Happy Fourth of July!
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!
On
Thursday, July 11th at 9:00pm, PPLM will be hosting our first live show
on our YouTube Channel! This show will feature John Perry, the creator
of our liquid aeration product and much more. Caety and John will be
available through YouTube to answer questions from anyone who logs in
and wishes to learn about liquid aeration and soil fertility. We hope to
see you there!
Summer has stormed in with very few actual storms, and the pairing of low total rainfall and scorching, prolonged heat has most lawns showing significant signs of heat stress. PPLM is about halfway through our Round 3 applications, some of which also cover corrective lime for clients working on improving the pH of their soil. We are also performing applications of fungus, grub, and nutsedge control for clients who are covered by the Plus Package or have signed up for any of these treatments on a stand alone basis. We expect to transition from Round 3 to Round 4 by the end of the month, at which point we will officially be in aeration and seeding prep mode! Be sure to contact our office if you wish to discuss the convenience and efficacy of liquid aeration.

The Problem with Heat
Remember, fescue absolutely hates the heat. When daytime temperatures sit in the 90s like they have been doing lately, fescue’s growth rates drop to less than 25% of what they would normally be. This is a good thing; because the heat is so stressful to fescue, it’s more important for it to use its energy on staying healthy than on trying to grow. If the heat gets to be too much, fescue will go dormant by turning brown and thin. This process is very similar to how warm season grasses turn brown in the winter when they go dormant. Don’t worry! Your fescue isn’t dead. Whenever we get good rainfall and a break in the heat, you will see your fescue perk back up. It’s a natural process, but there are steps you can take to lessen its effect and prevent damage being done. When your fescue is under heat stress, be religious about your watering and monitor the coverage of your irrigation zones. Additionally, avoid putting machinery on the lawn like a mower unless it’s actually necessary. Be sure to contact our office if you have questions about your lawn and the stress it’s under.
Liquid Aeration
To continue providing our clients with cutting edge and increasingly effective service options, PPLM will be offering an alternative to core aeration this fall. Liquid aeration is a highly effective method of increasing soil porosity and surface area for established lawns. While core aeration is still the best option when seeding an area that is mostly bare, liquid aeration is more effective for lawns that are already at least 80% established. Here’s why we are encouraging our clients to elect for liquid aeration this year:
No prep: Because we’re not breaking the soil surface, you don’t have to flag sprinkler heads or cable lines.
Better coverage: Liquid aeration reaches the entire soil surface and soaks deep into the ground, while core aeration only hits part of the surface at a depth of just a few inches.
More effective: Instead of just moving around chunks of soil, liquid aeration breaks down complex mineral bonds, creating not only more space for roots, air, and water, but also easier movement of key nutrients.
On top of the scientific benefits, we are offering our program clients a $20 credit on their aeration if they switch from core to liquid! Be sure to tune in to our YouTube channel at 9:00pm next Thursday, July 11th to learn more from the creator of this product himself!
